Three of our women wrestlers have a chance for bronze medals

The European Wrestling Championships in Tirana, the capital of Albania, continue.

On the fourth day of competition, the final three members of our women’s national team entered the contest.

Jala Aliyeva (57 kg) advanced to the semifinals after defeating Germany’s Amori Andrich and Finland’s Jenna Hemiä by fall. Just one step away from the final, she lost 2–6 to Turkey’s Elvira Kamaloglu. Tomorrow, Aliyeva will face the winner of the Tamara Dollak (Hungary) vs. Arina Demchanka (Belarus) bout for the bronze medal.

Ruzanna Mammadova (62 kg) defeated Ukraine’s Ilona Prokopevniuk by technical superiority (10–0), but lost in the quarterfinals to Russia’s Amina Tandelova with a score of 0–5. She will wrestle Germany’s Naemi Leistner tomorrow for the bronze medal.

Birgul Soltanova (65 kg) reached the semifinals after defeating Romania’s four-time European medalist Crina Ince with a score of 3–1. She came very close to advancing to the final. Despite leading 8–0 against Russia’s world silver medalist Alina Kasabieva, Soltanova gradually lost the initiative and was narrowly defeated 10–11. Tomorrow, she will compete against Turkey’s Beyza Akkus for the bronze medal.
