Squad announced for the European Championship

The European Wrestling Championship will be held in Tirana, Albania, from April 20 to 26.

Today, a meeting was held at the training base of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF) with the national teams that will participate in the major competition. During the event, attended by the AWF leadership, all participants were wished success. AWF Secretary General Parvin Piriyev, Vice Presidents Namiq Abdullayev and Farid Mansurov, as well as freestyle wrestling coordinator Haji Aliyev, delivered speeches expressing their confidence in each member of the national team and emphasizing the importance of fighting until the very end regardless of the result.

Afterwards, the squad for the continental championship was announced. Our Greco-Roman wrestling team will compete in the opening days of the tournament. Under the leadership of Head Coach Mohammad Bana, Senior Coach Nureddin Rajabov, and coaches Rovshan Bayramov, Behruz Hazratipour, Rasul Jazini and Sabah Shariati, the team will include Rashad Mammadov (55 kg), Nihat Mammadli (60 kg), Ziya Babashov (63 kg), Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg), Ruslan Nurullayev (72 kg), Sanan Suleymanov (77 kg), Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg), Islam Abbasov (87 kg), Murad Ahmadiev (97 kg) and Beka Kandelaki (130 kg).

Next, the women’s wrestling competitions will take place. Under the guidance of Acting Head Coach Togrul Asgarov and Senior Coach Agahuseyn Mustafayev, Elnura Mammadova (50 kg), Jala Aliyeva (57 kg), Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg), Ruzanna Mammadova (62 kg) and Birgul Soltanova (65 kg) will represent our country.

In the final days of the competition, freestyle wrestling bouts will be held. Led by Head Coach Khetag Gazyumov, Senior Coach Jabrayil Hasanov, and coaches Taymuraz Kokoyev and Sharif Sharifov, Islam Bazarqanov (57 kg), Nureddin Novruzov (61 kg), Rashid Babazada (65 kg), Kenan Heybatov (70 kg), Turan Bayramov (74 kg), Jabrayil Hajiyev (79 kg), Arseniy Djioyev (86 kg), Ali Tsokoyev (92 kg), Osman Nurmagomedov (97 kg) and Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) will aim for success.

At the European Championship, justice will be administered by our Category I-S referees – Asif Shiraliyev, Sadi Guliyev and Bashir Isazade.
