The Azerbaijan championship kicks off in Gazakh

On March 11, the U15 Azerbaijan Championship in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling started in Gazakh.

On the first day of the national competition held at the Gazakh Olympic Sports Complex, finalists in 6 weight categories of freestyle wrestling were determined. During the daytime session, matches in the 38, 41, 44, 48, 52, and 57 kg categories took place across various stages.

Afterward, the official opening ceremony of the competition was held. Speeches were delivered by the Head of the Gazakh District Executive Authority, Rajab Babashov; one of the prominent figures of the Gazakh wrestling school and former coach of the national freestyle team, Firdovsi Umudov; Vice President of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, Farid Mansurov; and Secretary General Parvin Piriyev. They spoke about the recent reforms carried out in national wrestling, Gazakh’s wrestling traditions as it hosts the Azerbaijan U15 Championship for the first time, and the importance of this competition. Then the national anthem was played, and show program was presented by the “Vatanim” dance ensemble.

In the evening session, semifinal matches in the above-mentioned 6 weight categories were held. The wrestlers who advanced to the finals are as follows:
