Nihat Mammadli: “I will do my best to defend the title”

At the ranking tournament held in Tirana, Albania, Nihat Mammadli (60 kg) defeated all of his opponents and climbed to the top step of the podium.

The member of the Greco-Roman national wrestling team shared his impressions about the tournament and his future goals:

“We were very well prepared for the competition. The weigh-in process went smoothly. Since I hadn’t competed for a long time, I didn’t experience any problems with making weight. Therefore, I felt very good during the tournament. There were strong opponents. But apparently, I was better prepared. I became champion by defeating all of my opponents. Nihad and I have been training together for many years. I knew the match would be closely contested because we know each other very well. In such situations, it is difficult to do something different.

The European Championship is coming up next. The goal is clear: to become champion. This title was a great motivation ahead of the European Championship. I believe in my strength. God willing, I will become a three-time European champion. I will do my best to defend the title.

Last year, I broke my rib and had problems with my eyes. Thank God, I am now fully ready. I have no injuries or pain. After the European Championship, my goal will be to achieve success at the World Championship, where I have not yet won a medal in the 60 kg weight category.”
