Four medals on the final day

The Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, have come to an end.

On the final day, competitions were held in four freestyle wrestling weight categories. All of our wrestlers stepped onto the podium.

Aghanazar Novruzov (74 kg) defeated Turkey’s world bronze medalist Fazlı Eryılmaz 6:3 in his debut match, and then beat Uganda’s Rogers Mukyedaya by technical superiority (10:0) to advance to the semifinal. Facing Bahrain’s Magomedrasul Asluev, our athlete, who was trailing 0:5, secured a determined victory in the final minute — 7:5. In the final, Aghanazar lost 0:5 to Iran’s Yunis Imamichogayi and claimed the silver medal.

Arseniy Djioyev (86 kg) met two-time world champion Kamran Ghasempour in his opening bout. Our representative defeated the decorated Iranian wrestler 5:3 and then left no chance to Algeria’s Benfercallah Fateh — 11:0. Djioyev overpowered Tajikistan’s Magomet Yevloyev in the semifinal and Bahrain’s Khidir Saypudinov in the final, both with a score of 5:1, and proudly had our national anthem played in Riyadh.

Magomedkhan Magomedov (97 kg) lost 2:12 in the quarterfinal to Kazakhstan’s world champion Rizabek Aitmukhan. As his opponent advanced to the final, our athlete entered the repechage and defeated Egypt’s Mohamed Salaheldin by technical superiority (18:6). In the bronze-medal match, Olympic and world champion Ahmed Tazhuddinov did not take to the mat, allowing Magomedkhan to secure third place.

Georgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) advanced to the next round after his Uzbek opponent Hasanboy Rahimov was injured while trailing 7:5. However, he narrowly lost 6:7 in a tense match against Bahrain’s Shamil Sharipov. The experienced national team member then defeated Egypt’s Abdelrahman Sheyatan 5:0 to earn the bronze medal.

Thus, on the final day of competition, our wrestlers won 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals. In total, over four days of wrestling events, they secured 11 medals — 2 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze.
