Hasrat Jafarov wins silver medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games

Wrestling events have started at the Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Today, competition was held in four weight classes in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Nihat Mammadli (60 kg) defeated Latuf Madi from the Comoros Islands with full superiority (11:0). However, he lost 0:3 in the quarterfinals to Uzbekistan’s world silver medalist Alisher Ganiev, and then was defeated 2:3 by Iran’s Ali Vafa in the bronze medal match.
Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) beat Afghanistan’s Mohamed Aslam Zada with full superiority (9:0), Kyrgyzstan’s Razzak Beyshekeyev 5:3, and Egypt’s Mohamed Abdelrehim 4:1 to advance to the final. In the decisive match, our wrestler faced Iranian Olympic and world champion Said Esmaili. Jafarov won the first period 3:0, but in the last four seconds of the bout, he was unable to block his opponent’s move and ultimately lost 3:8, earning the silver medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Ulvi Ghanizade (77 kg) lost 0:9 in the qualification round to Iran’s Amir Abdi. He later defeated Tajikistan’s Habibjon Zuhurov 5:3 in the repechage but then lost 2:2 on criteria in the bronze medal match to Uzbekistan’s Abdulla Aliyev.
Islam Abbasov (87 kg) was defeated 0:3 in the quarterfinals by Iran’s world champion Gholamreza Farrokhisenj. He then lost 0:9 in the bronze medal match to Kyrgyzstan’s Asan Janisov.
