Ali Tsokayev wins world bronze medal
The U23 World Wrestling Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, have come to an end.
On the final day of competition, another member of Azerbaijan’s freestyle wrestling team reached the podium.
Aykhan Abdullazade (65 kg) defeated Ukraine’s Mykyta Honcharov 4–1 in the repechage round but lost 0–10 to Kyrgyzstan’s Bilal Sharif Uulu in the bronze medal bout, finishing in fifth place.
Ali Tsokayev (86 kg) secured the bronze medal with dominant victories over Italy’s Gabriele Niccolini (11–0) and Georgia’s Tornike Samkharadze (13–2).
As a result, Team Azerbaijan concluded the championship with a total of three medals. It should be noted that yesterday, Kenan Heybatov (70 kg) won gold, while Khetag Karsanov (125 kg) claimed silver. With 84 team points, Azerbaijan finished fourth overall—just one point behind Japan. The United States (137) placed first, and Iran (127) took second.
