Gunay Gurbanova wins world bronze medal

The U23 World Championships continue in Novi Sad, Serbia.

On the sixth day of competition, the women’s wrestling events concluded.

On her 18th birthday, Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) ensured that Azerbaijan did not leave the day without a medal. The promising young wrestler defeated Italy’s Aurora Russo by fall to claim the world bronze medal.

Meanwhile, two of our freestyle wrestlers narrowly missed the podium. Magomed-Bashir Khaniyev (74 kg) fell 4–8 to Germany’s Manuel Wagener in the bronze medal bout, while Sadiq Mustafazade (92 kg) was defeated by fall in the repechage match against Uzbekistan’s Shirzad Poyonov.
