Azerbaijan starts CIS Games with 7 medals

The wrestling competitions at the 3rd CIS Games have officially begun.

Today, champions were determined in five freestyle and four women’s wrestling weight categories.

A total of 44 athletes competed on the opening day of the wrestling tournament held at the Ganja Olympic Sports Complex.

Our wrestlers claimed seven medals — one gold, two silver, and four bronze.

In freestyle wrestling, all Azerbaijani representatives finished in the top three. Nihad Abasov (71 kg) became the champion, while Hacihuseyn Ahmadzade (51 kg) and Rashid Nazarov (60 kg) took silver medals. Huseyn Rzazade (45 kg) and Amin Nasibov (92 kg) both earned bronze.

In women’s wrestling, Nazrin Ahmadli (46 kg) and Khadijakhanim Talibova (53 kg) secured bronze medals.

Tomorrow, champions will be determined in five freestyle and four women’s wrestling weight categories.
