Osman Nurmagomedov claims bronze at World Championships

The World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, continued with another medal for the Azerbaijani freestyle wrestling team.

On the third day of competition, one of our wrestlers stepped onto the podium. Jabrayil Hajiyev (79 kg) defeated Japan’s Ryunosuke Kamiya 5–3 in the repechage round. Making his debut at the Worlds, Hajiyev then fell short in the bronze medal match, losing 2–4 to Iran’s Mohammad Nokhodilarimi, and ultimately finished in fifth place.

Meanwhile, Osman Nurmagomedov (92 kg) faced Georgia’s Miriani Maisuradze in the bronze medal bout. Dominating throughout the match, the Azerbaijani wrestler secured a 5–1 victory to take third place. This marks Nurmagomedov’s fourth career medal at the World Championships.

With this result, Azerbaijan’s tally at the ongoing tournament has risen to four medals. It should be recalled that earlier, Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) won silver, while Nureddin Novruzov (61 kg) and Arseniy Djioyev (86 kg) each claimed bronze.
