Two Azerbaijani Wrestlers Finish Fifth at World Championships

The U17 World Wrestling Championships continue in Athens, the capital of Greece.

On the second day of competition, the first set of Greco-Roman champions was crowned.

In the 48 kg repechage round, Gurban Majnunov lost to the USA’s Michael Rand with a score of 3-7. In the same stage at 65 kg, Huseyn Isgandarov was defeated by fall against another American, Arseni Kikinyov.

Competing at 55 kg, Nihat Bahmanov claimed a 3-1 victory over Brazil’s Lavoisier Marusso in the repechage to earn a shot at bronze. However, in the medal match, he fell short against Tajikistan’s Mehdi Barotov, losing 5-8 and finishing in fifth place.

At 80 kg, Nijat Yeylagaliyev edged past Ukraine’s Nestor Baran 6-5 in the repechage round, but was unable to overcome Turkey’s Ismail Bereket in the bronze medal bout, suffering a 0-9 defeat.
