Yusif Dursunov Reaches Final, Four Wrestlers to Compete for Bronze
The U20 European Championship continues in Caorle, Italy.
On the sixth day of competition, freestyle wrestling action resumed across five more weight categories.
Bashir Verdiyev (61 kg) advanced to the semifinals after defeating Turkey’s Yusuf Kulali (5:2) and Great Britain’s Danush Jovkara (14:4). In the semifinal, Verdiyev fell to Russia’s Adlan Saytiyev with a score of 5:17. He will compete in the bronze medal match tomorrow.
Omar Gulmammadov (74 kg) claimed convincing wins over Poland’s Antoni Majrak (13:3) and Belarusian Muslim Makhmudov (12:2) to reach the semifinals, where he was narrowly defeated 2:5 by Italy’s Raul Caso. Gulmammadov will wrestle for bronze tomorrow.
Mahammad Abbaszade (86 kg) overcame Switzerland’s Nick Scherrer (10:0) and Moldova’s Alexandru Borsa (5:2) to book a spot in the semifinals. There, he lost 0:5 to Turkey’s Ahmet Yagan. Abbaszade will now aim for a bronze medal.
Anar Jafarli (92 kg) defeated Slovakia’s Fabio Gianetto (13:0) and Ukraine’s Yehor Horokh (9:6) en route to the semifinals, where he was stopped by Russia’s Artur Togoyev with a 0:10 defeat. Jafarli will compete for third place tomorrow.
Yusif Dursunov (125 kg) delivered dominant performances against Bulgaria’s Dian Manev (12:1), Poland’s Michal Dubowski (11:0), and France’s Levan Lagvilava (13:2) to reach the U20 European Championship final for the second time. In the gold medal bout, he will face Russia’s Inal Gagloev.
