Two of our wrestlers became world champions

The U-17 World Wrestling Championship in Amman, Jordan, continues.

Today, the champions in the final five weight categories of Greco-Roman wrestling were determined.

Shahid Nabiyev (45 kg) lost in the consolation match to Iran’s Ahmad Badraddini with a score of 4:9, and Yusif Ahmadli (71 kg) was defeated by American Joseph Dennis with a score of 7:10.

However, our recent European champions lived up to expectations.

Turan Dashdamirov (51 kg) won the final match against Kyrgyzstan’s Kutman Kalbayev with a score of 5:3, becoming a world champion for the second time. Thus, Dashdamirov achieved maximum results in the U-17 age group, becoming a 2-time European and 2-time world champion within 2 years. It is also worth noting that Turan was the U-15 European champion in 2022.

Ayxan Javadov (60 kg) also triumphed in the final, defeating Georgia’s Vakhtang Loluaya with a score of 4:1, claiming the top spot on the podium. Javadov had also won the continental championship this year.

As a result, our Greco-Roman wrestling team finished the U-17 World Championship with 2 gold and 1 bronze medal. It is worth mentioning that yesterday Əmrah Əmrahov (48 kg) claimed third place in the world.
