Magomed-Bashir Khaniyev became the world champion

The U-23 World Wrestling Championship held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, has concluded.

Over the weekend, the winners in the last five freestyle wrestling weight categories were determined.

Vasif Baghirov (57 kg) lost in his debut match to Armenia’s Manvel Khndzrtsyan with a score of 2:12.

Rashid Babazade (65 kg) defeated Bahrain’s Alibeg Alibegov (5:1) and France’s Khamzat Arsamerzoev (2:1) to advance to the quarterfinals. However, in the match for a place in the semifinals, Babazade was overpowered by Uzbekistan’s Umidjon Jalolov, losing 0:11.

Magomed-Bashir Khaniev (70 kg) pinned Belgium’s Muhammad Abdurakhmanov in the opening round. In the 1/8 finals, he defeated Puerto Rican Elih Rivera ahead of time with a score of 10:0. Khaniev then showcased his strength against Tajikistan’s Mustafa Akhmedov, winning 10:4. In the semifinals, Magomed-Bashir defeated India’s Sujeet Sujeet by pin. In the final, Khaniev faced Russia’s Magomed Eltemirov. In a tense match, Khaniev secured a narrow victory (5:4) to become the world champion.

Ali Tsokaev (79 kg) defeated Albania’s Aryan Dana decisively (11:0) in the qualification round but had to withdraw from the 1/8 finals against Ukraine’s Ivan Harashchuk due to an injury.

Aslan Abakarov (97 kg) lost in the first round to Iran’s Mehdi Hajilouyan (0:10) and was also defeated in the repechage round by America’s Massoma Endene in a tied score of 7:7 (losing on criteria).
