Gunay won the Azerbaijani final in Zagreb

The rating tournament continues in the Croatian capital Zagreb.
Today, 6 more of our wrestlers competed at the “Zagreb Open”.
In women’s wrestling, two of our representatives took to the mat in the 59 kg category. Alyona Kolesnik defeated Hungarian Erika Bognar (5:2) and American Mikaela Beck (touchdown) in Group A, while Gunay Gurbanova defeated American Sofia Macaluso (touchdown) and Moldovan Mariana Cherdivara (8:2) in Group B. Both of our wrestlers advanced to the semifinals as group leaders. Kolesnik defeated Cherdivara 3:1, and Gurbanova defeated Beck 6:0 to advance to the final. The national members met in the decisive match. Gunay, who demonstrated more determined wrestling in the final, which was held in a tense competition, won 4:2.
Murad Mammadov (63 kg) lost to Aitjan Khalmakhanov from Uzbekistan in the first round with a score of 5:14. Although Ziya Babashov, who was in the same weight category, defeated Gleb Makaranka from Belarus with a score of 2:1 and advanced to the semifinals, he lost to Dinislam Bammatov from Russia – 0:8. Ziya lost the initiative in the last seconds of the match with Ellis Coleman from America and lost his chance to win a bronze medal – 3:5.
Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg), who competed in his first competition after the Olympic Games, eliminated Norwegian Morten Thoresen from the competition – 5:1. Hasrat suffered a serious ear injury in the match with Valentin Petich from Moldova while leading 7:0 and was forced to leave the competition. Our other representative in this weight category, Farid Khalilov, lost to Serbian world champion Sebastian Nada on the last point principle (3:3) in his debut.
