Freestyle wrestling

The type of wrestling that is famous and loved in our country is similar to national wrestling. Freestyle wrestling originated in the Lancashire region of England. It later spread as a professional sport in the United States and gradually gained popularity worldwide.
In freestyle wrestling, techniques involve holding the body from both the upper and lower extremities (hands and feet). Therefore, compared to Greco-Roman wrestling, it is more dynamic. Freestyle wrestling is renowned for its techniques such as takedowns, throws, holds, and maneuvers targeting the arms and head.
The first European championship in freestyle wrestling took place in 1929, while the first world championship occurred in 1951. This style of wrestling has been part of the Olympic program since 1904.
