Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation

AGF is a sports organization that operates with the aim of developing the sport of wrestling in the country, discovering talented individuals, and preparing wrestlers who will successfully represent our country.

The Federation brings together athletes from various age groups and implements training processes for their professional development. It ensures the participation of athletes in local and international competitions on a competitive scale.

In accordance with its strategy, AGF improves its activities every year, working towards the development and popularization of wrestling within the country and strengthening our position on the international stage.

1959

The Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation was established in 1959 as part of the Soviet Wrestling Federation. In its early years, the federation was led by Qamber Axundov, and later by Fətulla Hüseynov. Fətulla Hüseynov continued to lead the federation until the period of our independence.

1993

After the recognition of the Republic of Azerbaijan as a sovereign country, the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation was established in 1993, and in the same year, it was officially admitted to the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) at the headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

2008

In the year 2008, the new charter of the Wrestling Federation was approved at the V Conference of the Federation. Regional representations were established, and Vice-President positions were appointed for International Relations, Regions, Organizational and Financial Affairs, as well as Youth categories.

2023

In the year 2023, the structure and composition of the federation’s regional representations were reorganized with the aim of further accelerating the development of wrestling in the regions, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the knowledge and skills of coache.
