The Azerbaijan Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling Championship has started.
On the first day of competition, 104 athletes competed in Greco-Roman wrestling in 55, 63, 72, 82 and 97 kg.
The winner of the first final was Elmir Aliyev (55 kg), who experienced the joy of winning the championship after a 3-year break. Ziya Babashov won the title of Azerbaijani champion in 63 kg for the 3rd time in a row. In the decisive match of 72 kg, last year’s finalists faced each other. This time, Ruslan Nurullayev, who was stronger than Urfan Hasanli, defended his title. A new national champion in 82 kg was determined. Gurban Gurbanov, who did not allow for surprises, confirmed his favorite status. The expected final in 97 kg took place. Murad Ahmadiyev emerged victorious from the confrontation of two national members and defended his title.
