Our national team became the world champion for the second time in a row

The World Championships in Greco-Roman wrestling, held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, have concluded.

Our national team delivered an outstanding performance, opening a new chapter in the history of Azerbaijani wrestling.

Winning three gold medals, our team became the world champion with 85 points. Defending its title, the team achieved this success for the second consecutive time. Azerbaijan finished 34 points ahead of its closest rival, Iran.

With this achievement, our team set two new records in Azerbaijani wrestling. By winning the World Championship trophy for the second time, the Greco-Roman team became the first to achieve this among our senior wrestling disciplines. Additionally, it became the first Azerbaijani team to win three gold medals in a single World Championship.

It is worth noting that in Albania, Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg), Nihat Mammadli (63 kg), and Ulvi Ganizade (72 kg) became world champions, each contributing 25 points to the team’s tally. Making his debut, Qurban Qurbanov (82 kg) finished in fifth place, earning 10 points for the team.
