Cocu in the final of the world championship, 3 more bronze medal chances

Today, the U-20 World Wrestling Championship kicked off in the city of Pontevedra, Spain.

On the first day of competition, Greco-Roman wrestlers in the 55, 63, 77, 87, and 130 kg weight categories took to the mat.

Rahim Hasanov (55 kg) advanced to the quarterfinals after securing dominant victories over Filip Bartosik from the Czech Republic (8:0) and Hasan Alharti from Saudi Arabia (11:2). However, he was defeated by Iran’s Abdullah Ahmadi with a score of 1:6 on his way to the semifinals. Hasanov will face China’s Huoying Shi in the consolation match tomorrow.

Mammad Shukurzade (63 kg) eliminated Hristo Valentinov from Bulgaria (7:0) and Ziyu Wang from China (2:0) but lost by fall to Russia’s Erzu Zakriyev in the quarterfinals. Shukurzade will meet Moldova’s Pavel Denisenko in the consolation round.

Davud Mammadov (77 kg) couldn’t overcome Alexandru Solovey from Moldova in the qualification round, losing 0:8.

Jocu Samedov (87 kg) secured a confident victory over Serbia’s Andrija Mihajlovic in the 1/8 final, winning 5:1. In a tense match, Samedov defeated Armenia’s Ruben Gevorgyan 3:1 in the next round. After also defeating Kazakhstan’s Temirlan Turdakin with a score of 4:2, Jocu advanced to the final. Our wrestler will compete against Kyrgyzstan’s Asan Janishov for the world championship title in the decisive match.

Mezaim Mardanov (130 kg) won 2:0 against Serbia’s Marko Supik but was defeated by Iran’s Abulfaz Fatitazangi in the quarterfinals with a score of 5:9. Mardanov will wrestle Kyrgyzstan’s Samagan Ormonov in the consolation round tomorrow.
